ABOUT THE PROJECT
Follow the track of Earth’ history in the territory of 777 km 2 . This not much extensive territory is geologically very varied. During your two up to three-day visit of the Geopark you can learn the history which is nearly 700 million years old.
You can find more than 100 types of rocks with many unique and rare minerals and deposits with a wide range of fossils. During your trip, you may visit information stand focusing on Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Plutonites, Mesozoic and Hydrogeology. Here you can acquire general information about the respective topic with references to specific nearby localities, where the information panels will be placed. Project includes the restoration of Doubrava River Valley Nature Trail with planned construction of similar informative elements.
Železné hory (Iron Mountains) – a geologically significant region project was implemented by Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic, The Administration of Iron Mountains Protected Landscape Area and RO Pardubice.
The Iron Mountains PLA is one of the major partners of Iron Mountains Geopark. It occupies almost one third of its area and its uniqueness lies in the diversity of geological base on which varied forms of life are being found. The project was supported by funds from Operational Programme Environment . Project contractor was Vodní zdroje Chrudim company.
